From Jam-Making to Event-Making – Why Process Matters

The Step-by-Step Method to Stress-Free Events

Not long ago, I taught some canning classes where students learned to make jam. At first, the steps seemed overwhelming: tools, ingredients, sterilization, boiling. But once they understood the process, they realized it was simple. They left empowered, ready to make jam on their own.

Event planning is no different.

At first, it can feel intimidating. There are countless details, deadlines, and moving parts. But when you learn the steps – the recipe – you gain confidence. The process becomes repeatable, reliable, and even fun.  Yes, you have to have fun!

This is why I’m passionate about teaching not just event planning skills but also the process. There’s pre-planning, tons of follow-up, and countless behind-the-scenes actions that ensure an event feels seamless to guests.

I am now offering online classes to share these steps with planners, corporate teams, executive assistants, nonprofit staff and anyone wanting to plan stress-free events.  These classes are listed on my website.  Just like my cooking students, once you know the recipe, you’ll be able to create something memorable with ease.

Because stress-free events don’t just happen—they’re the result of following a recipe that works, time after time.

And here’s the beauty: once you understand the process, you can begin to innovate. Just as a seasoned cook knows when to add a dash of spice or try a new flavor, an experienced planner can confidently adjust, adapt, and personalize each event without losing sight of the fundamentals. The process gives you both structure and freedom.

That’s where mastery lives—when you can move beyond the stress of “getting it right” and step into the joy of creating experiences that feel effortless, natural, and deeply memorable. That’s when guests aren’t just attending an event; they’re feeling part of something truly special.

What has you helped turn something overwhelming into something joyful—either in events or in your own work?
